Chemistry with Management BSc (Hons)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Bath

Program Overview

This degree combines a solid grounding in chemistry with key business and management skills, giving you the best of both worlds. It’s perfect for students who love science but also want the flexibility to understand how businesses operate and prepare for a wide range of careers.

Curriculum structure:
Year 1
In your first year, you’ll get hands-on in the lab with Foundations and Applications of Chemistry and Year 1 Laboratory, while also exploring the basics of business with units like Introduction to Accounting and Organisational Behaviour. This mix helps you see how chemistry works in the real world, from molecules to management.

Year 2
Year two digs deeper into chemistry with units such as Fundamental Concepts of Chemistry and Characterisation, Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy. You’ll also have more flexibility with optional management units, helping you understand how companies make decisions and operate in the chemical industry.

Year 3
In your final year, you’ll tackle advanced chemistry topics like Advanced Chemistry 1 and Problems and Solutions in Modern Chemistry B, while honing your lab skills and taking final-year options that match your interests. It’s a year of pulling everything together—science, business, and your independent project—to get you ready for your career or further study.

Focus areas:
Core chemistry, lab techniques, analytical skills, management theory, business decision-making in scientific contexts, and optional specialisation in chemistry or management.

Learning outcomes:
You’ll graduate able to combine chemical knowledge with practical business insight, design and carry out experiments, analyse complex data, understand the wider context of science in society and business, and communicate your findings confidently. This makes you versatile and ready for roles across science, industry, or business.

Professional alignment (accreditation):
The chemistry part of this degree is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, ensuring it meets professional standards.

Reputation (employability rankings):
Bath is highly regarded, ranked 8th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2026, with top career outcomes according to the Guardian 2026. Globally, Bath graduates enjoy strong prospects, with the university in the QS Top 100 for employability. Recent chemistry graduates show excellent employment rates, with most in full-time roles soon after graduation.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Bath, learning isn’t just about lectures and textbooks — it’s about rolling up your sleeves and getting hands-on. From the very first year, you’ll spend time in state-of-the-art teaching labs, using real scientific instruments to explore chemistry in action. You’ll also tackle business challenges, working on projects that show how science and management come together in the real world. By combining lab work, business insight, and problem-solving, you’ll graduate with practical skills that employers actually value.

Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • Work in well-equipped teaching laboratories for synthetic, analytical, and computational chemistry.

  • Use advanced instruments like NMR, mass spectrometry, diffraction tools, microscopy, and chromatography to explore chemical phenomena firsthand.

  • Take part in Year 2 laboratory projects where you design experiments, analyse data, and even learn some coding for chemists.

  • Complete management-focused projects through the School of Management, applying business thinking to scientific contexts.

  • Optionally, go on a professional placement or study abroad in the 4-year programme, gaining valuable industry experience and a global perspective.

By the end of your degree, you won’t just understand chemistry and management — you’ll have real, hands-on experience and a portfolio of projects that set you apart.
