Law (Two-Year Accelerated) LLB (Hons)

2 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

The University of Northampton

Program Overview

The Two-Year Accelerated LLB at Northampton is a fast-tracked law degree that lets you complete in just two years what normally takes three — ideal if you’re eager to jump into your legal career quickly or already have prior commitments. It suits driven, focused students who want a thorough grounding in law — from criminal and contract law to human rights and legal practice — without sacrificing depth or quality.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 (Accelerated)

In your first year you cover the core legal foundations intensively. You’ll study modules such as Learning the Law, which helps you understand how laws are made and how courts work; UK & EU Constitutional Law, which explains how political and legal systems are structured; Law of Contract and Criminal Law, giving you a sense of how agreements, criminal responsibility and justice operate in real life. You’ll also take modules like Ethics, Discrimination and Human Rights and Current Legal Issues & Jurisprudence, helping you appreciate the social, moral and theoretical dimensions of law. It’s a demanding start — but by the end of this first year you’ll already have the core legal “map” needed for more advanced study.

Summer (After Year 1)

Because this is an accelerated course, after the first academic year there’s a summer term where you complete key modules: Graduate & Academic Skills Development — sharpening your writing, analysis, and employability skills — and a Social Action Research Project, where you get involved in legal-awareness or community-focused work, giving you early exposure to real social and legal issues outside the classroom.

Year 2 (Final Year)

Your second year deepens and broadens your law knowledge and gives you opportunities to specialise. Compulsory modules include Judicial Protection under UK & EU Law, Law of Equity, Wills, Probate and Trusts, and Land Law, which together cover essential areas like property law, inheritance, equity and how law protects individuals in complex situations. On top of that, you choose from designated optional modules such as Criminal Litigation, Child and Family Law, Environmental Law and Justice, Intellectual Property Law in Commerce, Medical Law and Ethics, Business Law and Practice, Civil Litigation & ADR, Information Technology Law, Contemporary Issues in Human Rights, and more — allowing you to tailor the degree to your own interests and career goals. Finally, you complete a Law Dissertation over the summer, letting you dive deep into a legal issue that matters to you, showing academic maturity and subject-specific insight.

Focus areas: “Foundations of UK & EU law; contract, criminal, constitutional, tort, equity and property law; legal ethics and human rights; specialised elective areas such as family law, environmental law, business law, IP law, litigation, civil justice, and modern legal issues; practical legal skills and academic research.”

Learning outcomes: “Comprehensive grasp of core legal principles; ability to analyse and apply law to real-world situations; strong legal reasoning, research, writing and critical-thinking skills; flexibility through elective specialisation; readiness for professional legal training or diverse graduate roles.”

Professional alignment (accreditation): This accelerated LLB covers the seven fundamental areas of legal knowledge required by legal professional bodies in the UK — meaning you’ll meet the academic criteria needed to move on to vocational training and qualify as a solicitor or barrister.

Reputation (employability potential): Because this course condenses three years into two — while still covering all essential subject areas — graduates often stand out for their strong legal grounding combined with discipline, focus, and readiness to enter the job market sooner. The variety of optional modules and a chance to specialise make this degree attractive for law firms, legal services, public sector, compliance, consultancy and more.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Studying the accelerated Law LLB at Northampton isn’t just about reading legislation and writing essays. Because the course is taught at a faster pace, the practical side becomes even more valuable, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to apply what you learn in realistic legal settings. From simulated courtrooms to real client work, the university helps you build the confidence and professional skills that employers look for.

You’ll learn in specialist legal spaces and get involved in activities that bring the law to life, such as:

  • Practising advocacy in the purpose-built Moot Room, where you can take part in mock trials, client interviews and courtroom arguments, and get comfortable presenting legal reasoning just like you would in professional practice.

  • Taking part in pro-bono and community legal initiatives, where you could help real clients with practical legal issues and gain experience that strengthens your understanding of how law affects everyday life.

  • Exploring optional legal work placements, supported by the university’s careers and placements team, which can help you connect with firms or legal organisations and understand what day-to-day legal work actually feels like.

  • Joining guest lectures and activities from practising lawyers, judges and legal specialists, giving you a chance to hear real stories from those already working in the legal system and to build useful professional connections.

  • Using the university’s digital tools and learning resources, including support with legal research, drafting and professional writing, helping you get comfortable with the technology used in modern legal practice.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduating from the two-year accelerated Law LLB gives you a fast-track into a wide range of legal and law-related careers — many alumni move into roles like solicitor trainee, paralegal or legal assistant, compliance or contract officer in business settings, or advisory roles in public or private sector organisations. If you’re focused and ready to hit the ground running, this degree helps you start your career earlier than many, giving you a head start in gaining experience and building credentials.

Because you study intensively and the course is designed to give you core legal knowledge quickly, your path forward could be boosted by:

  • Career support services from the university’s dedicated employability and careers team, helping you polish your CV, prepare for interviews and connect with legal-sector recruiters — giving you real help to step confidently into the job market.

  • Strong foundational qualification since the accelerated LLB gives you the necessary legal knowledge base required for professional legal training — meaning this degree keeps open the traditional routes to qualifying as a solicitor or barrister, if you choose to take them.

  • Early entry into workforce — finishing in two years means you could start working or training professionally sooner than peers with longer courses, giving you a potential experience advantage and flexibility to take on legal or business-law roles quickly.

  • Wide range of applicable career paths because your legal education — covering key areas like contract law, criminal law, property, equity and optional specialised modules — makes you attractive not only to law firms, but also to roles in compliance, corporate governance, public service, consultancy, human rights, or business-law advisory work.

  • Flexibility for growth or further study — whether you choose to go straight into work, or later opt for postgraduate study or vocational legal training, this degree gives you a strong foundation and flexibility to move forward according to your ambitions.

Further Academic Progression:
Once you finish this accelerated LLB, you have several good options for further education. You could enrol in postgraduate legal-practice courses to become a qualified solicitor or barrister, or pursue specialised master’s degrees in areas like human rights, corporate law, international law or legal research. This will deepen your expertise and open doors to more senior legal roles, academia, or specialised advisory careers — giving your future plenty of flexibility and upward mobility.
