Law with Criminology, LLB Hons

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Greenwich

Program Overview

The LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology at the University of Greenwich combines the study of law with an in-depth understanding of crime and criminal justice. It’s perfect for students who are curious about how the legal system works and want to explore why people commit crimes and how society responds. Over three years, you’ll gain solid legal knowledge while also looking at crime from a social, policy, and criminological perspective — giving you a well-rounded foundation for a range of careers.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year sets the stage. You’ll get a strong grounding in law through modules like Public Law, Law of Contract, and Legal System & Legal Skills, while also beginning your criminology journey with Foundations of Criminology. By the end of this year, you’ll have developed key skills in legal research, writing, and critical thinking.

Year 2
In your second year, you dive deeper into the law with modules such as Land Law, Law of Torts, and Criminal Law. On the criminology side, Policing and Society explores how crime is investigated and managed. You’ll learn to apply legal theory to real-world crime and justice scenarios, strengthening your problem-solving and analytical skills.

Year 3 (Final Year)
The final year is your chance to specialise. You’ll study advanced law modules like Equity and Trusts and European Union Law, and choose from optional modules such as Company Law, Advanced Criminal Law, or criminology-focused options like Crime in the City and Penology. You can also complete a Dissertation or Research Project, allowing you to explore a topic that really interests you while honing your research and writing skills.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

⚖️ Legal Advice Centre

Students can volunteer at the university's Legal Advice Centre, providing free one-off advice on employment, family, and housing law issues via video conferencing. Under the supervision of qualified lawyers, students gain hands-on experience in client interviews, legal research, drafting, and professional conduct. This experience not only enhances practical lawyering skills but also counts towards Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) for aspiring solicitors.

🏛️ External Legal Placements

Through the Legal Placement module, typically undertaken in the third year, students engage in placements with external organizations such as law firms, local authority legal departments, and community law centers. These placements provide real-world legal experience, allowing students to apply their knowledge in professional settings and develop essential skills sought by employers.

🕊️ Innocence Project London

The university hosts the Innocence Project London, a law clinic and registered charity where students work on cases involving potential miscarriages of justice. This initiative offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful legal work, developing investigative and analytical skills while contributing to the broader legal community.

🎤 Mooting and Mock Trials

Students can participate in mooting competitions and mock trials, honing their public speaking, legal research, and advocacy skills. These activities simulate real court proceedings, providing a platform to practice legal arguments and receive feedback, thereby enhancing courtroom readiness.

🌍 Study Abroad Opportunities

The Study Abroad LLB Hons programme includes a year studying in Europe at one of the university's partner institutions. This experience broadens students' legal perspectives, exposes them to different legal systems, and develops transferable skills such as adaptability and cross-cultural communication.

🤝 Employability Events and Mentoring

The university's Employability and Careers Team supports students in securing internships and placements. For instance, a first-year student, Rizwan, secured an internship at a city law firm with the team's guidance, gaining practical skills through mock negotiations, project tasks, and networking opportunities.
