Program Overview

The Law LLB (Hons) program explores the role of law in various contemporary issues, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility and ethical conduct.

As part of this course, you will:

  • Develop a solid understanding of the foundations of legal knowledge, including key doctrines, principles, concepts, rules, and values across core legal areas.
  • Gain insight into the broader context in which law operates, appreciating its evolving nature, uncertainties, and the necessity for legal reforms.
  • Enhance your ability to apply legal knowledge and skills to both theoretical and practical aspects of law.

Memberships

Coventry Law School is an active member of the International Association of Law Schools, which includes approximately 250 law schools from over 60 countries, representing around 12,000 faculty members. This membership provides access to a range of international opportunities, including partnerships with institutions worldwide.

Additionally, Coventry Law School is a member of the European Law Faculties Association, which consists of over 250 law faculties across Europe and beyond.

Memberships are reviewed annually. While there is no plan to discontinue these affiliations, applicants and students will be informed promptly if there are any changes.

Industry Collaborations

Coventry Law School partners with the Central England Law Centre to integrate professional experience into your studies. Through law employment and advocacy clinics, a welfare and benefits advocacy clinic, and health justice partnership clinics, students gain practical experience by working alongside solicitors. Under supervision from legal practitioners, students engage in real-world legal tasks, including providing supervised advice and assistance to the public.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Practical Legal Skills Development: The curriculum focuses on essential legal practices, including constructing succinct legal arguments and understanding the nuances of employment law, EU law, contract, and tort law. ​

  • Mooting and Advocacy Training: Students are encouraged to develop their mooting, advocacy, and presentation skills, laying a solid foundation for competent legal practice. ​Coventry University

  • Experiential Learning Opportunities: The programme offers hands-on experiences through simulated legal environments, allowing students to apply their knowledge in practical settings. ​

  • Career Preparation: With a strong emphasis on employability, the course aims to prepare students for various roles within the legal sector, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet the demands of the profession. 

Progression & Future Opportunities

⚖️ Legal Career Pathways:

  • Solicitor: Graduates can pursue the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to qualify as solicitors. CUL's offers SQE-aligned support and practical legal training.

  • Barrister: Those aiming for the Bar can undertake a Bar Training Course (BTC) and apply for pupillage.

  • Other roles include paralegal, legal executive, advocate, or tribunal officer.

📚 Further Study & Specialisation:

  • LLM (Master of Laws) in areas like Criminal Justice, Human Rights, or International Law

  • Postgraduate diplomas in legal practice, dispute resolution, or compliance

  • PhD or MPhil for research or academic careers

💼 Careers Outside the Traditional Legal Route:

  • Public sector and civil service roles, including local government and policy-making

  • Regulatory and compliance roles in finance, healthcare, and corporations

  • Charity, advocacy, and NGO work, especially in legal aid, immigration, or social justice
