BA Anthropology and Law

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

London School of Economics and Political Science

Program Overview

The BA in Anthropology and Law at LSE is a fascinating blend of two distinct yet closely related fields, giving equal weight to both. In the anthropology part, you'll get to explore how our lives are influenced by religious, political, and economic systems. You’ll dive into important discussions around social justice, multiculturalism, race, gender, and how political and economic shifts shape our modern world.

On the law side, you’ll investigate the framework of the legal system and the essential procedures needed to practice law effectively. The program also provides thorough training in anthropological research methods, giving you the skills you need for fieldwork.

You’ll have the chance to carry out a detailed ethnographic study, take part in summer fieldwork placements, and even have the opportunity to spend a year abroad at one of LSE's global partner institutions. Throughout your studies, you’ll be encouraged to critically evaluate issues and embrace new viewpoints, all within a challenging yet supportive academic environment. LSE’s anthropology department is ranked first in the UK for research (REF 2021), while the law department is third in the UK according to the QS World University Rankings 2023. This means you’ll be learning from top experts in both fields. This interdisciplinary program offers a unique opportunity for students who are passionate about the intersection of law, culture, and social change.
