Program Overview

If you’re fascinated by how laws are created, interpreted, and shaped by political power, this degree is the perfect choice. Leicester’s Law with Politics LLB gives you a strong foundation in the core principles of English law while exploring the political systems and ideas that influence legal change — preparing you for careers in law, government, public policy, and beyond.

 Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Build your foundation
Your first year introduces you to the fundamentals of legal study and political thought. You’ll explore key modules such as Constitutional and Administrative Law, Contract Law, and Analysing Law, which teach you how the legal system operates and how legal reasoning works. Alongside these, modules like Politics, Power and Ethics and Comparative European Politics introduce you to political ideologies, state structures, and the relationship between law and governance.

Year 2 – Deepen your expertise
In your second year, you’ll tackle more complex areas of law, studying modules like Criminal Law, Law of Tort (Advanced), and EU Law. These build your understanding of key legal fields while developing your ability to analyse and argue legal cases. On the politics side, you can choose modules such as Political Ideas, Political Parties in Contemporary Britain, or European Union Politics to tailor your studies to your interests.

Final Year – Specialise and prepare for your career
Your final year is all about choice and specialisation. You can focus on areas that match your career goals, selecting advanced legal modules and political topics that deepen your expertise. Many students choose to complete a dissertation or major research project, and you can even spend a year abroad to broaden your global perspective and experience how law and politics work in another country.
