Program Overview

Our LLB (Hons) Law degree is designed to set you on the path to a successful legal career while equipping you with highly transferable skills that will make you stand out to employers. Beyond preparing you for a role in law, this course will develop your critical thinking, research, and interviewing skills, which are valuable in a wide range of professions.

You will begin with core modules covering the seven Functioning Legal Knowledge (FLK) areas, providing a strong foundation in legal principles. From your second year onwards, you will have the flexibility to choose from a variety of optional modules, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests and career aspirations. In your final year, you will have the opportunity to fully customise your studies, selecting modules that align with your chosen legal pathway.

Specialise in areas such as:

  • Social justice – Explore legal systems that promote fairness and equality.
  • Human rights – Examine the laws that protect fundamental freedoms on a national and international level.
  • Business law – Gain expertise in the legal aspects of commerce and corporate governance.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

1. Legal Advice Clinic (LAC)

The Legal Advice Clinic is a student-led initiative that provides free legal assistance to individuals who might not otherwise have access to legal help. 2. Mooting and Competitions

3. Professional Mentoring Scheme

The university offers a Professional Mentoring Scheme, where students are paired with experienced legal professionals. This mentorship provides insights into the legal profession, career advice, and networking opportunities, supporting students' professional development. ​

⚖️ Legal Career Pathways:

  • Solicitor: Graduates can pursue the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to qualify as solicitors. Huddersfield's offers SQE-aligned support and practical legal training.

  • Barrister: Those aiming for the Bar can undertake a Bar Training Course (BTC) and apply for pupillage.

  • Other roles include paralegal, legal executive, advocate, or tribunal officer.

📚 Further Study & Specialisation:

  • LLM (Master of Laws) in areas like Criminal Justice, Human Rights, or International Law

  • Postgraduate diplomas in legal practice, dispute resolution, or compliance

  • PhD or MPhil for research or academic careers
