The Molecular Bioscience MSc degree program offers two distinct pathways, which are focused on Molecular Medicine or Genetics and Genomics. By selecting your preferred area of interest, you can tailor your studies to meet your career goals. The program is intended for those who already possess knowledge or a keen interest in Molecular Medicine or Genetics and Genomics.

In the Molecular Medicine pathway, students can explore topics such as immunological cancers, bacterial infection diagnosis and mechanisms, neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disease pathology, and the role of bioenergetics in health and disease. The Genetics and Genomics pathway covers diverse areas such as antimicrobial resistance, genetics of neurological disease, and human genetic variation's impact on fighting infection.

This program is designed to help individuals develop their understanding and knowledge of their chosen pathway. Whether you plan to pursue a career in bioscience or continue your education at the PhD level, this program equips you with the necessary skills, qualifications, and insight to achieve your aspirations.

You will need to have a minimum 2.2 class honours degree in a Biological Science from a UK university or international equivalent in order to be eligible to apply for this course.

Some jobs in this field require minimal qualifications, such as biological technicians who perform basic laboratory tasks, and agricultural scientists who ensure the safety and quality of food products. Molecular and cell biology are crucial to the biotech industry, which uses these fields to develop innovative materials like biodegradable plastics and biofuels. Even employees in non-research roles at biotech companies may benefit from having a biology degree.

However, higher-level positions in the field typically require advanced education. Research scientists specializing in cell and molecular biology work for government agencies or businesses, particularly in the medical science sector developing new drugs. University professors with graduate degrees in these fields conduct research in addition to teaching. Other unique roles, such as scientific journal editors or biology textbook authors, are also available in this industry.
