MSci Molecular Biology

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Manchester

Program Overview

This four-year MSci Molecular Biology provides a unique opportunity to earn a master’s-level qualification while you study for your BSc, offering a significant boost to your research capabilities and future career or PhD ambitions. It’s perfect for students passionate about understanding life at the molecular level—covering everything from DNA and RNA to proteins and cell function—all through a richly structured, research-intensive degree.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll begin with a broad scientific foundation that combines key areas like biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology. Your study will introduce essential laboratory techniques and theoretical concepts that prepare you for advanced learning.

Year 2
This year deepens your expertise, exploring advanced content driven by real-world research, including how genome projects and genetic manipulation help us understand and develop biotechnological solutions like insulin, blood-clotting factors, and vaccines.

Years 3 & 4
You’ll layer in specialty modules and ultimately focus on a substantial 120-credit research project during Year 4—conducted over six to seven months in one of the University’s over 200 research labs. This project is central to your integrated master’s degree.

Focus Areas :
"Molecular genetics, protein function, research-led specialization, genome application"

Learning Outcomes :
"Gain mastery in molecular systems, high-level lab and research skills, and conduct independent investigation"

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
This MSci programme features Advanced Accreditation from the Royal Society of Biology, allowing graduates to apply for Member (MRSB) status after just two years of professional experience—fast-tracking your path to becoming a Chartered Biologist or Scientist.
