Curriculum structure

Year 1
You’ll build a strong foundation in both disciplines with core units like Core Pure and Applied Mathematics A & B, Foundations of Physics 1, and Mathematics and Physics Skills 1. Year 2

You’ll study Advanced Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and Vector Calculus, Partial Differential Equations, and Foundations of Physics 2, along with Physics Skills 2. Optional units allow you to begin tailoring your studies toward your interests—whether that’s theoretical physics, applied mathematics, or computational modelling.

Year 3
In your final year, you’ll take on a substantial Final Year Project and choose from a wide range of optional units across both departments. This is your chance to specialize—whether in quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, cosmology, or numerical methods—and to apply your skills in a self-directed research or applied mathematics project.
