Our BA Sociology program has been thoughtfully designed to provide you with a strong foundational understanding of key sociological concepts, theorists, and social issues in your first year. The first year of study is focused on examining contemporary social issues through the sociological imagination, community action, and an intersectional lens.
In your second year of study, you will build on the broad introductions to sociology and research methods from your first year and begin to engage with more specific fields of inquiry and practice. You will have the opportunity to choose from a range of specialized modules to focus on your areas of interest and employability goals.
During your final year of study, you will develop the ability to identify and define complex problems, combining diagnostic and creative skills, while deepening your understanding of specialist areas and fields of professional practice. You will have the option to shape your own learning through five optional modules and a project focused on a Global Citizenship Challenge or a traditional supervised dissertation. Additionally, you can take advantage of term or year-long work placements. Graduates of this program may pursue career opportunities in various fields such as social work, research, or public policy.
