Program Overview

This degree gives you a strong foundation in how economies operate—from firms and consumers to global markets—and equips you with the quantitative, analytical and computing skills to make sense of real-world economic issues. It’s ideal for students who are curious about business, society and policy and want a practical, data-driven approach to economics.

Curriculum structure:

Year 1: You’ll begin with fundamental modules such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics & Statistics for Economists and Econometrics Basic Concepts. These will build your quantitative and conceptual toolkit, helping you understand market behaviour, policy impact and start to work with economic data.

Year 2: In the second year, you’ll move into deeper topics like Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Econometrics 2, and optional modules such as Behavioural Economics or Global Economic Challenges. You’ll sharpen your ability to analyse complex economic problems and apply computing/data tools (for example Excel and R) to real-world economic scenarios.

Final Year (with Placement): The degree includes an integrated professional placement year (for home students) followed by the final year which covers advanced modules like International Trade, Environmental Economics, Advanced Econometrics or Competition Policy. Here you’ll specialise, apply your skills in a real workplace context, and prepare for employment or further study.

Additional Information & Requirements

A-level qualifications requirement: Standard offer BBC; Contextual offer reduced to BBC with EPQ or Core Maths grade B.

GCSE or equivalent requirements: Mathematics grade B/5 and English Language grade C/4 or above.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: 31 points (for the “Economics” course listing).

For BTEC National Extended Diploma: DDD–DDM, depending on the variant.

Evidence of English language proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English, typically IELTS 6.5 overall or equivalent.
