Program Overview

 

The BSc (Hons) Economics at Nottingham Trent University equips you with analytical, decision-making and data-driven skills needed to understand markets and influence economic futures. It’s ideal for students who are curious about how economies work—from firms and households to global trade—and who enjoy combining theory with real-life application. 

 

Curriculum structure:

Year 1: You’ll begin with core modules such as Principles of Economics, Quantitative Methods for Economics and Markets and Business Environment, letting you shape a foundation in economics, maths and data analysis while exploring how businesses and economies interact.

Year 2: In your second year you’ll study modules like Microeconomics and Decision Making, Macroeconomics in the Global Economy and Economics in Practice, where you apply theories to real-world contexts, use the Business Lab’s live market data and work in teams on applied case studies. 

Year 3:Study Abroad  You may choose to study at one of their international partner institutions, where you can develop a global perspective, enhance language proficiency, and build independence and confidence.

Year 4: The final year includes advanced modules such as Contemporary Economic Policy, International Trade and Investment and your Dissertation/Independent Project. If you choose the placement route, you’ll spend 9–12 months in an industry role, bringing your learning into live business/finance environments.  

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

On the BSc (Hons) Economics programme at Nottingham Trent University, you’ll gain real-world skills by working with live business data, industry providers and global markets within our fully-equipped trading facility. From your first year you’ll apply economic theory through simulations and placements, supported by specialist labs and mentors to build your profile before you graduate.

  • Flexible “Unique Opportunities” in Year 2 — choose from a 16-18 week internship, study abroad, or an enterprise project collaborating with early-stage ventures. 

  • Dedicated facilities including the Behavioural & Experimental Economics Laboratory, the Link Lounge and the Newton Building hub for business-lab students.
