Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Economics at University of Strathclyde offers you the chance to explore how consumers, firms and governments make decisions—and how those decisions shape the economy and society. Curriculum structure

Year 1: You’ll begin with a broad foundation in business and economics via the Management Development Programme 1, while studying modules like Introduction to Economics and Business Analysis & Technology and Introduction to Marketing & Entrepreneurship. This gives you a solid grounding in both economic theory and the business context.
Year 2: You’ll focus on core economic modules such as Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics 2 where you learn to analyse markets, consumer choice and policy decision-making—equipping you with deeper quantitative and economic modelling skills.
Year 3 (Honours): In your final year you’ll engage in advanced topics like Information Economics, Applied Econometrics and undertake a Dissertation, enabling you to apply economic tools to real-world issues, conduct independent research and demonstrate specialist knowledge.
Year 4(Study Abroad): The degree offers optional study abroad opportunities that allow students to spend a year or semester at a partner university, gaining international academic and cultural experience. This enhances global awareness, strengthens analytical skills in a different academic context, and improves employability in international and multinational careers.
Year 5 : If you are studying Single Honours Economics, you will take 2 core classes, the Economics Dissertation, plus 3 elective classes.

Additional Information & Requirements

GCSE English Language 6/B or Literature 6/B, or an essay-based A Level B may be considered in lieu of English; GCSE Maths 6/B; A Level Maths A for combinations with Accounting or Maths & Statistics

International Baccalaureate: 32-30 (no subject below 5 and including English SL5, Maths/Maths Studies SL5; Maths HL5 for combinations with Accounting or Maths & Statistics).

A-Level: BBB to ABB, no specific requirement of any subject.

IELTS Score: Overall 6.5, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component & TOEFL (ibt): 80 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20 Writing: 18.

CBSE: For entry to Strathclyde undergraduate programmes we'd look for 70-75% in all subjects taken at level XII and the same at level X. Marks should be particularly strong in the proposed area of study.

American Curriculum: if submitting test scores, we ask for any of the following: SAT: 1200 (600 in each component)/ACT: 27 plus 2 AP exams with scores of 4+ or 3 AP exams with scores of 4+.
