Program Overview:
This four-year extended degree includes a foundation year designed for students who may not meet traditional entry requirements or need to build academic confidence before progressing to the full BSc. The program blends criminology and criminal psychology to explore crime’s causes, consequences, and psychological roots, combining practical knowledge with theoretical understanding across justice, policing, and mental health.

Curriculum Structure

Foundation Year

The first year focuses on developing core academic skills and subject-specific knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Social Sciences, Study Skills, Exploring the Criminal Justice System, and Key Themes in Psychology and Criminology. This year prepares students for successful entry into the main undergraduate programme.

Year One (of degree)

You'll explore introductory modules including Introduction to Criminology, Fundamentals of Psychology, Understanding Crime, and Academic and Professional Skills. These provide foundational knowledge of criminal behaviour and societal structures.

Year Two

Modules such as Criminal Psychology, Youth and Crime, Research Methods, and Policing and Social Control encourage deeper inquiry into the justice system and psychological approaches to crime. Optional units allow for tailored learning in areas such as Victimology or Drugs and Crime.

Year Three

The final year includes a research dissertation and advanced topics like Forensic Psychology, Mental Disorder and Crime, Global Crime and Justice, and Terrorism and Political Violence. You’ll have the chance to critically engage with specialist areas and apply your learning to real-world issues.

Placement Option:
Although not formally embedded, students can pursue work placements or volunteering opportunities through the university’s professional links with criminal justice organisations, charities, and NGOs.
