Program Overview

Metalsmithing & Jewelry can be as freely experimental as any art form. The workshop and studio experiences in this program emphasize design and craftsmanship. Metalsmithing students explore avenues of expression and techniques. Students learn basic metalsmithing techniques such as sawing, filing, piercing, forging, forming, fusing, soldering and casting. Materials most often used include copper, brass, nickel, silver, silver and gold. In addition to creating jewelry, there are many opportunities for students to incorporate metalsmithing processes and materials into their work in other areas, including Functional Design/Wood, Sculpture and Surface Design.
