BA Woodworking or Furniture Design

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Murray State University

Program Overview

Woodworking students apply principles of art and craft to produce useful art objects. While a variety of materials may be employed, the main emphasis of the area is woodworking. As part of intensive hands on instruction, students learn to use a number of hand and power tools. Projects typically start with simple containers, then progress to complex furniture construction requiring carving, shaping, joinery, lamination and finishing techniques. Problem-solving and creativity are dual concerns, making woodworking a unique blend of technical skill and aesthetic expression.
