The Music Education Program at Northern Kentucky University prepares students for the challenges and rewards of teaching music as a career through coursework and field experience in K 12 public school settings. Future music educators who complete the requirements of the degree receive state certification and licensing for teaching music in public and private schools in Kentucky and Ohio. The programs are offered for students seeking certification: choral emphasis, choral/piano emphasis, and instrumental concentration each of which prepares students to receive certification to teach music in the public school system.
Should have Grade 12 or High School with minimum GPA 50%, Official transcripts from all years of secondary school (or high school) must be sent directly to International Student & Scholar Services by the student s current or previous educational institution(s), Test scores: IELTS of 6.5, TOEFL ibt of 79, SAT, ACT.
Professional performers, college and university faculty, public school music teachers, private studio instructors, and in allied fields within the music industry.
