University of Texas AustinThe ultimate aim of the jazz program is to develop serious performers and composers who will be among the collaborative leaders of the future. Jazz majors have the opportunity to hone their skills in a variety of large ensembles, a writers’ band, small combos, and student-sponsored jam sessions. Our jazz faculty are acclaimed performing artists with backgrounds and experiences that span the entire spectrum of the music industry; their goal is to guide students toward instrumental mastery with a strong emphasis on individual artistic expression.
