Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science + Physics at UIUC, jointly offered by the Grainger College of Engineering and the Department of Physics within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, merges deep theoretical and practical training in both disciplines. This interdisciplinary program equips students with tools to explore, model, and compute physical phenomena using advanced algorithms and computing principles. Students will investigate quantum systems, computational modeling, and simulations—skills valuable in fields like quantum computing, scientific research, and software engineering.

  • Year 1: Calculus I–II, University Physics: Mechanics, Computer Science I & II, Discrete Structures, Orientation courses

  • Year 3: Linear Algebra, Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Numerical Methods or Analysis, Statistics, Technical Electives

  • PHYS 446: Modern Computational Physics offers hands-on projects simulating real-world physical systems
