University of Michigan Ann ArborThe secondary teacher education program at the University of Michigan is a three-term program that prepares students to teach grades 6-12. Starting during your junior year, you can work toward an undergraduate degree and secondary teacher certification through the State of Michigan. As a prospective secondary teacher, also called a “teaching intern,” you get the opportunity to teach subjects about which you have a deep understanding.
US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Applicants are generally assessed on their preparation in English, social sciences, research and quantitative reasoning. Statistics may be particularly helpful for Psychology, Education Research, Public Policy and other research-based programs. Volunteering, tutoring, community projects, advocacy, research, student leadership and activities involving communication or social issues may strengthen the application.Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 20–30%. Michigan values leadership, sustained involvement, service, initiative and evidence of potential contribution to the university community.
