BS Aerospace Sciences

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Broward College North Campus

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Sciences at Broward College North Campus is a four-year, on-campus program designed for students who want to launch careers in the aviation industry. Whether you’re interested in becoming a professional pilot or advancing into aerospace management, this program offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares graduates for supervisory, management, and leadership positions across airlines, airports, and aviation organisations.

Students select from one of two tracks: Professional Pilot track (S800A) or Aerospace Management track (S800B).

Curriculum structure:

  • Year 1: You’ll begin by completing foundational general education requirements such as ENC1102 Writing Composition II, mathematics, and introductory science courses, which build your communication, analytical, and scientific skills essential for the aerospace field.

  • Year 2: As you progress, you’ll take courses like ASC3215 Advanced Aviation Weather and ASC3321 Aviation Law II, diving into the complexities of meteorology and legal frameworks in aviation. You’ll also start exploring human factors in aviation with courses such as ASC3478 Advanced Aviation Human Factors I, and continue to fulfil general education requirements in social sciences and humanities.

  • Year 3: Your third year introduces more advanced and specialised content. If you choose the Professional Pilot track, you’ll study AVM3522 Airline Operations I, AVM4523 Airline Operations II, and ASC4476 Advanced Aviation Human Factors II, while the Aerospace Management track includes AVM3302 Aviation Sales & Marketing, AVM4180 Quality Assurance in Aviation, and AVM4540 Aviation Finance. Both tracks emphasise real-world applications and leadership in aviation operations.

  • Year 4: In your final year, you’ll complete capstone courses and advanced electives tailored to your chosen track. Professional Pilot students will take ASC4200 Advanced Flight Planning, ASC4671 Transport Category Aircraft Operations I, and ASC4551 Advanced/High Altitude Aerodynamics, preparing for roles that may qualify for a restricted privileges airline transport pilot (R-ATP) certificate. Aerospace Management students will focus on AVM4160 Aviation Planning, AVM4170 Aviation Project Management, and AVM3630 Employee Relations in Aviation, building expertise for management and executive positions.

Focus areas: Professional pilot training, aerospace management, aviation law, human factors, airline operations, aviation safety, airport planning, and aviation finance.

Learning outcomes: Graduates interpret and assess aircraft systems, understand law and ethics in aerospace, solve human factors challenges, analyse safety data, manage airport and airline operations, and apply advanced planning and leadership in aviation contexts.

Professional alignment (accreditation): The program is designed to meet industry needs and aligns with requirements for the restricted airline transport pilot (R-ATP) certificate for qualifying graduates.

Reputation (employability rankings): Broward College’s program is recognised for its practical, career-focused approach, strong ties to local aviation employers, and pathways to advancement in the aviation industry.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Broward College North Campus offers the Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Sciences as a 2+2 program designed for students who have already completed an associate degree (A.S. or A.A.) from a regionally accredited institution. The program is structured to provide broad exposure to the aviation industry while allowing you to specialise in one of two tracks: Professional Pilot or Aerospace Management.

Facilities and Experiential Learning:

  • Emil Buehler Aviation Institute: The program is housed at Broward College’s Emil Buehler Aviation Institute, which provides access to advanced aviation training resources, including flight simulators, instrumented classrooms, and specialised labs for pilot and management training.

  • Flight Training Partnerships: Students in the Professional Pilot track can complete flight training through affiliated flight schools such as Phoenix East Aviation, with the opportunity to earn credits for FAA pilot certifications and ratings (Private, Instrument, Commercial, Multi-engine, CFI, CFII, MEI).

  • Industry Connections: Broward College participates in the FAA’s Restricted-ATP program, allowing eligible graduates of the Professional Pilot track to qualify for a restricted Airline Transport Pilot certificate with as few as 1,000 flight hours. The college is also a member of the JetBlue University Gateway Program, offering conditional job offers for pilot positions to qualified students.

  • Internships and Career Services: After your first year, you can access internship opportunities and career tools through Broward College’s Employment Solutions, helping you gain practical experience and connect with aviation employers.

  • Modern Classrooms and Labs: The program utilises up-to-date classrooms, simulation labs, and technology-enabled learning spaces at the South Campus, supporting both pilot and management coursework.

  • Student Support: Dedicated academic advising, credit for prior learning, and financial aid options are available to help you complete your degree efficiently.
