Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is offered through the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and is a jointly delivered, interdisciplinary program by the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

The program integrates hardware and software expertise, preparing students for careers in embedded systems, robotics, computer-controlled platforms, and more.

Course Overview:

  • Year 1: Introduction to Engineering and Programming, Calculus I & II, Physics (Mechanics), Linear Algebra, Digital Systems and Electrical Engineering Foundations,

  • Year 2: Digital Systems, Circuit Analysis, Data Structures, Differential Equations, Physics (Electromagnetism), Probability & Statistic

  • Year 3: Signals and Systems, Electronics, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, Technical Communication

  • Year 4: Operating Systems, Senior Design Project (I & II), Major Guided Electives, Free Electives

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Design Integration: Design-focused curriculum with continuous analytical and experimental design activities in both lectures and labs, culminating in a Senior Design Project.

  • Laboratory Work: Mandatory lab courses in circuits, electronics, digital systems, and computer engineering provide extensive hands-on experience.

  • Internships & Co-ops: Students are strongly encouraged to participate in internships and cooperative education programs to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings.
