The curriculum leading to this degree allows students to gain comprehensive understanding of the relationships between the structure and properties of materials. Courses offer students a broad foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics. Within the curriculum are classes and labs covering metals, ceramics, polymers and the design and selection of those materials. Students have the opportunity to explore different fields through a sequence of technical electives in other engineering disciplines. A series of senior capstone project courses allows students to apply materials science principles to open-ended engineering problems.
