Washington and Jefferson CollegeThe Environmental Science major emphasizes biology with substantial coursework in computing sciences and mathematics, chemistry, and environmental policy to prepare students to solve modern environmental problems.
Environmental Science (ENVS) and Environmental Studies (EVST) are distinct, but related programs. Both programs start with an introductory course in environmental studies and end with a course in research methods and a professional capstone. Both are interdisciplinary programs that focus on building knowledge and skills in the Natural/Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts. However, while these content areas exist in both majors, the ENVS major prescribes significantly more natural science, physical science, and computational science content than does the EVST major.

Profile Assessment: Science applicants are generally assessed on the rigour of their Mathematics and laboratory-science coursework. Relevant preparation may include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus or Statistics, depending on the intended field. Research, science fairs, Olympiads, laboratory exposure, independent investigation and environmental or community-science projects can demonstrate scientific curiosity and analytical thinking.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school. Relevant APs can strengthen an application and may earn university credit, but are not compulsory unless the university or programme explicitly requires them.Essays & recommendations: Personal essays and teacher/counselor recommendations give context to your achievements and help demonstrate fit with the program.Environmental Scientist
