The Department of German Studies offers a variety of programs in German language and linguistics, literature, culture, and thought. Courses are open to majors and all interested students. Candidates are accepted for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy.

US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 20–30%. Stanford looks for depth, intellectual vitality, initiative and meaningful impact. A student who has developed one or two interests to a high level may present a stronger profile than someone with many superficial activities. Projects, leadership, research, entrepreneurship, arts, sport and community work can all be valuable.Profile Assessment: Undergraduate applicants interested in law may choose Pre-Law, Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, International Relations or another field. Debate, Model United Nations, mock trials, student government, journalism, advocacy, research and community service may demonstrate critical thinking and communication.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
