Minor in Chinese

The Chinese courses at Birmingham-Southern College are designed to help students acquire speaking, listening, reading, and writing/typing skills essential for communicative competence, acquaint students with an understanding of Chinese culture, and prepare them for the challenges in this increasingly interconnected and globalized world.BSC offers an eight-course series in Mandarin Chinese to take students from brand-new beginners up through being proficient in conversation, in Chinese for the workplace, and to reading Chinese newspapers and other media. There's also a full range of courses designed to give you broad perspectives on Chinese culture, including some Asian Studies, history, philosophy, and more. And you can dip into the hands-on Exploration term course into "Explorations of Qi," which looks at the Chinese concept of life-energy and how to harness it through film, food, calligraphy, tea culture, Feng Shui, acupuncture, and physical exercises such as Qigong and Tai-Chi.
