Major in Health Sciences

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Birmingham Southern College

Program Overview

This new major is designed for students who plan to go into allied health and related careers after graduation, including nursing, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy and pathology work, and more. You'll master the basics of human biology, build a foundation in the natural sciences, and explore the social sciences such as psychology and sociology. You'll learn critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and problem-solving skills that will position you to succeed in the fast-evolving field of health care and in professional school. BSC's health professions advisor will work with you to tailor the major to your interests. You'll also take one rise3 course or experience: an internship in a local clinic or hospital, a service-learning project examining how people access care, or research into an aspect of allied health that interests you, or other options. For your senior capstone, you'll investigate the latest trends in the health sciences and present you findings to the campus community during Honors Day. That research will give you a leg up if you choose to apply to graduate or professional school after graduation.
