The role of the medical laboratory scientist in health care is the accurate and precise performance of laboratory procedures that aid in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Most medical laboratory scientists are employed by hospitals, clinics, reference laboratories and physician office laboratories. Some medical laboratory scientists are laboratory consultants; assist in research projects; are sales or technical representatives for laboratory and pharmaceutical companies; or work in food, beverage, or chemical plants.
