Program Overview

The Surgical Technology Program at Elgin Community College teaches you how to how to take an active role in the operating room. Surgical technologists prepare the operating room for surgical cases, and remain next to the patient during the entire surgery while passing instruments to the surgeon, holding retractors, suctioning, sponging and anticipating the needs of the surgeon you may even put your hand directly in a patient s body during some surgeries. A career in the operating room is never boring, and being a strong team player is a must for a surgical technologist. ECC will prepare you for this exciting career with a combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences in area hospitals. The Surgical Technology Program is hands-on training at the highest level.
