As a sport psychology major, you ll learn how psychological and social factors influence the physical activity experience in both sports and exercise settings. You ll develop an understanding of topics like confidence, anxiety, leadership, goal-setting, motivation, and aggression as you prepare for a career in athletics or other physical activity settings.Enter the minds of athletes and active individuals as you gain a better understanding of the mental aspects of sport performance and physical activity behaviors.Complete a senior internship with university, high school, or youth athletic teams or in exercise or fitness settings.Conduct applied lab experiences in small-group settings during courses in kinesiology and psychology.Prepare for graduate study to become a sport psychology consultant and/or researcher.

Sport psychology graduates are prepared for graduate study in sport psychology, exercise psychology, sport sociology or counseling. With a master s degree, one can acquire sport psychology certification; to become a sport psychology professor/researcher, a doctorate must be obtained. With a bachelor s degree, one may work in athletic departments as academic advisors at the K-12 (after earning teacher certification) or university level.
