Philosophy explores central aspects of the human condition, of world and of relation to that world.The Department of Philosophy at Amherst welcomes all students, from those who would like to sample a course or two, to those who would like to major in the discipline and perhaps even study the subject in graduate school.

Common Application, Coalition Application OR QuestBridge Application, Amherst College Writing Supplement, School Report, Secondary School Transcript high school diploma or its recognized equivalent is required before enrolling at Amherst College, Counselor Recommendation, Two Teacher Recommendations, Standardized Test Results, either self-reported or official, for the SAT or ACT, English Proficiency Requirements: 100 on the internet-based TOEFL iBT: 25 or above recommended for each section, 75 on the paper-delivered TOEFL: 25 or above recommended for each section, 7.5 overall band score on IELTS Academic: 7.5 or above recommended for each component score
