Environmental chemistry is the study of the chemical processes that occur in nature due to activities by humans, from soil to water to the atmosphere. Through field and laboratory work, environmental chemists attempt to understand how chemicals move through the environment and impact it as well as human health. They take measurements, interpret data, and do computer modeling. To prepare students for careers in environmental chemistry, the Chemistry Department at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year chemistry degree with an emphasis in environmental chemistry.
