The BA in Economics at UGA combines solid economic theory with data-driven methods and hands-on electives, preparing students to analyze markets, policy, and global systems. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll begin with ECON 2105 (Principles of Macroeconomics) and ECON 2106 (Principles of Microeconomics) to learn core concepts like GDP, inflation, supply-demand, and market behavior. At the same time, you’ll tackle required math—MATH 2200 or 2250—along with BUSN 3000 (Applied Statistics & Data Analysis) to build your analytical foundations.

Year 2
Next up: ECON 4010 (Intermediate Microeconomics) and ECON 4020 (Intermediate Macroeconomics). Here, you’ll engage with formal economic models and policy analysis while also taking ECON (MARK) 4750 (Introduction to Econometrics)—your intro class to regression techniques and empirical work.

Year 3
This is your opportunity to explore upper-level electives aligned with your interests and possible emphasis areas like Public Policy or Consulting. Courses include ECON 4150 (Environmental Economics), 4300 (Public Sector Economics), 4650 (Economics of Organizations & Management), and 4950 (Competitive Strategy). These electives let you apply economic theory to real-world challenges in markets, policy, business, and sustainability.

Year 4
You'll complete your remaining upper-division electives and any required core electives. Many students choose to concentrate in areas such as health, labor, international trade, or game theory. You might also take on honors research or internships, deepening practical experience and making your resume stand out.
