Geography analyzes spatial patterns and regional associations of the physical and cultural environments. It is concerned with human relationships with these environments as they exist now, existed in the past, and may or should exist in the future. This approach means geographers find work in many diverse fields, from environmental management to urban planning, from community development to the park service to GIS project management.

Students who enroll in the Geographical Information Track will specialize in Geographic Information Science (GIS). GIS means working with spatial data, which is useful in many fields, including urban planning, environmental analysis, cartography, retail and real estate, health, and military intelligence.

Students in the Urban Geography Track will specialize in Urban Geography. Urban geographers study the processes shaping cities, where the majority of the world's people now live. Urban geographers examine how cities and towns have developed, why they are different over space and time, and how cities are changing today. Urban geography undergraduates often pursue work or graduate studies in urban planning, transportation, economic development, and urban community organizations.

Students in the Environmental track will specialize in humanenvironment interactions and relations. Environmental Geography undergraduates find work in environmental management, conservation, environmental nonprofit organizations, environmental consulting, natural resources, parks management, and environmental education.

In the physical systems track, geography majors study the processes shaping the earth's climate; soils; distributions of plants and animals; landforms, including caves and glacial landscapes; and water, including rivers, lakes, and aquifers. Physical systems geography majors go on to work in conservation, hydrology, environmental management, hazards mitigation, and environmental education.
