The Global Development (GDEV) major responds to the need for innovative and critical thinking on the concept and practice of development. It prepares students to interpret problems, clarify solutions, develop leadership and foster positive social change. Students receive comprehensive training in the key ideas, issues, and debates central to global development. All GDEV students take a breadth of interdisciplinary coursework in development scholarship and practice and gain depth in a concentration of their choice

Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 15–25%. Cornell considers activities alongside academic rigour, essays, recommendations and alignment with the selected Cornell college. Research, employment, projects, leadership, service and discipline-related experiences may demonstrate sustained interest and readiness for the chosen academic area.Profile Assessment: Undergraduate applicants interested in law may choose Pre-Law, Political Science, Economics, History, Philosophy, International Relations or another field. Debate, Model United Nations, mock trials, student government, journalism, advocacy, research and community service may demonstrate critical thinking and communication.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
