Sociology is an exciting field of study that offers explanations for important matters in our personal lives, our communities, and the world. At the personal level, it investigates the social causes and consequences of numerous concepts including race and gender identity, conflict in family, aging, and even romantic love. At the societal level, sociology examines and explains issues like crime and law, poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, business, educational systems, and social movements. At the global level, sociology studies issues such as migration/immigration, war and peace, economic development, and even global warming. The knowledge and critical thinking skills obtained in the study of sociology are valuable in a variety professional settings and employment fields.
