BFA Art in Jewelry and Metalwork

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Georgia

Program Overview

The goal of the Jewelry & Metalwork major at the University of Georgia is for every student to embrace the intrinsic nature of jewel and metal materials and their processes as a vehicle toward self-expression. Students take courses that build an appreciation for the history of jewelry and metals from body adornment to ritualistic and functional objects, and develop competency of the various techniques associated with metalsmithing: fabrication, lost wax casting, raising, forging, stonesetting, blacksmithing, and numerous forming and surface embellishment processes. A professional portfolio exit project is required which can be used toward application to graduate school or the jewelry/metals profession.
