University of North TexasThe undergraduate Communication Design program graduates effective conceptual thinkers and creative problem-solvers in the areas of Graphic Design and User-Experience Design. In both concentrations, students begin by learning to use the basic elements and principles of design and apply design thinking and design process to learn concepts, technology, image-making, color theory, typography, user analysis and client needs, wireframing and prototyping as students create wide and diverse visual means of communication.
High school GPA of 3.0/4.0 (US grading scale), Interview with Admissions Representative, Test scores: TOEFL minimum required score of 79, IELTS minimum required score of 6.0 overall band. One letter of recommendation is requested. Statement required. SAT - 1500 out of 2400, ACT - 18 English, 22 Reading, 22 Mathematics and 23 Science. Submitting transcripts US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Creative-field applicants may be assessed through academic preparation, creative ability, visual thinking and, where required, a portfolio. The portfolio may include finished work as well as sketches, experimentation, process development and written explanations. Architecture may value Mathematics, Physics, drawing and spatial thinking, while Art, Design and Fashion programs may place greater emphasis on originality, technical development and the creative process.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
