Program Overview

The English Language Studies (ELS) certificate program is designed for adult learners whose first language is not English. The program is structured around four levels of English language proficiency with certificates and courses from intermediate to pre-university levels.Across the four levels of the program, core language skills---i.e., interactive communications, reading, and writing---are integrated with academic study and socio-cultural skills with increasing complexity as language proficiency increases. This approach helps to prepare students for successful undergraduate-level studies at Canadian universities.The program is flexible to accommodate the unique needs of different learners. Students have the option of studying part-time or full-time, and students can complete all courses at each proficiency level or take skill-specific courses only to improve in specific language skill areas.
