Program Overview

This CPD Award Computing Studies for Teachers course is designed to help qualified primary and secondary school teachers develop the general knowledge and skills required to deliver the computing curriculum up to SCQF Level 3.Set up as a part-time, rolling programme with one module being offered each semester, you will complete both of the following modules in year one:Database & Computer Systems:This module will cover the basics of computer systems and how the various hardware and software elements interact. Subjects covered include data representation and number systems, computer structure and the environmental impact of such,Coding and Web Technologies:This module will develop knowledge, understanding and problem-solving skills related to modern Web Design and Software Development. Students will also learn best-practice techniques to build Websites and Web Apps using HTML and CSS in combination with a programming language to build and test software.Although the focus of the course will be on developing skills, knowledge and understanding to teach general computing skills, you will be encouraged to explore teaching methodologies, develop and share learning activities and resources, and develop ideas on how to put these into practice.
