The Bachelor of Creative Production in Media Arts and Production / Bachelor of Laws at UTS is ideal for students who want to combine their passion for film, media and storytelling with a professional legal education. You’ll gain hands-on production experience while developing strong legal knowledge, preparing you for careers across the creative industries, media, entertainment and law.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Build your foundations in both media and law through subjects such as Media Arts and Production, Foundations of Law, and Ethics Law and Justice, developing your creative, analytical and legal thinking skills.

Year 2: Strengthen your practical production and storytelling abilities while studying key areas of law through subjects such as Screen Storytelling, Contracts, and Torts.

Year 3: Take on more advanced creative projects while expanding your legal expertise through areas such as Media Arts Production, Criminal Law and Procedure, and Real Property.

Year 4: Your studies become more professionally focused, covering subjects such as Evidence, Civil Practice, and Constitutional Law, alongside opportunities to explore your interests through electives.

Year 5: Bring your creative and legal knowledge together through advanced law subjects and electives, with opportunities to explore areas such as Legal Ethics, International Law, media law, intellectual property and technology law.

Focus areas: Film and screen production, storytelling, directing, producing, editing, media law, intellectual property, legal practice, ethics and technology law.

Learning outcomes: Develop professional media production and storytelling skills, build a strong creative portfolio, understand legal principles and professional practice, and gain the ability to navigate the legal and commercial side of the creative industries.

Professional alignment (accreditation): The law component satisfies the academic requirements for admission as a lawyer in New South Wales. Graduates must also complete approved Practical Legal Training to qualify for professional admission.

From producing screen projects with professional equipment to developing advocacy skills in realistic legal settings, the course is designed to give you practical experience that connects directly with the creative and legal industries:

Professional production facilities: Create projects using TV and sound production spaces, editing facilities and the UTS MediaLab, with access to professional cameras, lighting and sound equipment.
Industry-standard software: Work with digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro and Ableton Live for editing, post-production, sound and content creation.
Collaborative projects: Work with other students on creative productions, gaining hands-on experience in teamwork, storytelling and the screen production process.
Industry experience: Learn from experienced creative practitioners and build valuable industry connections, with opportunities for internships and professional experience.
Moot Court facilities: Develop practical legal and advocacy skills in purpose-built spaces designed to recreate real courtroom environments.
Brennan Justice and Leadership Program: Gain experience beyond the classroom through volunteering, leadership and social justice activities.

Depending on your interests, you could work as a Media Producer, Screen Producer, Media and Entertainment Lawyer, or Intellectual Property Lawyer:
