Program Overview

The postgraduate aquaculture courses draw on expertise from key industry figures in South Australia who serve on the industry consultative committee for Flinders University courses. Linked with these courses are work placements in tuna, yellowtail kingfish, oyster, abalone, mussel and freshwater crayfish sites. Flinders University is involved in research shared with Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) and the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI). The courses develop an understanding of aquaculture principles and practices in nutrition and water quality, reproduction and genetics, hatchery management, ecology and physiology, husbandry and production, health management and disease control, product quality, aquaculture system and technology, experimental design and statistics for biology, fisheries biology and management, and bio business. The program involves practicals in laboratories, aquaria and tanks, aquaculture professionals and a flexible choice of elective topics available from different disciplines. The Masters of Science (Aquaculture) course can be fast-tracked in 18 months and includes a research component.
