The Master of Genetic Counselling is a professionally accredited coursework degree, completed full time over two years. The course teaches counselling skills and clinical genetics knowledge in small interactive student groups, utilising the expertise of tutors who are clinicians, genetic counsellors, scientists, people with a disability and community members. Additionally the course includes a research component, including the minor thesis which offers students the opportunity to undertake qualitative and quantitative research in areas of clinical relevance to genetic counselling practice and theory.
An undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline such as Science, Biomedical Science, Health Science, Social Work, Psychology, Medicine, or related discipline, an undergraduate degree in any discipline and documented relevant work experience including clear evidence of career development, professional writing, and professional achievement or practice comparable to that expected of undergraduate degree holders in cognate disciplines; Prerequisite studies in biology to first year undergraduate level and genetics to second or third year undergraduate level, or equivalent; Relevant voluntary/paid work experience in providing peer/counselling support to others at times of need or crisis, Test scores: TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, CAECancer Genetic CounselorMedical ScientistEpidemiologistHealth Educators and Community Health WorkerMedical Scientists
