2 Years On Campus Masters Program
The Master of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) at RMIT is a research-focused program for students who want to develop advanced knowledge while working on real-world electrical and electronic engineering challenges. Students work with a research supervisor and can explore areas such as power and energy, control systems, communication technologies, complex systems, biomedical engineering and micro/nano technologies.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
The first year focuses on building strong research skills and preparing students for their main research project or thesis. Students complete Research Methods, along with training in Research Integrity and Copyright and Intellectual Property, while developing skills in research design, analysis and academic communication.
Year 2
The second year is centred on the student's independent research project or thesis, carried out with guidance from an academic supervisor. Students analyse their findings, develop their research contribution and learn to communicate their results clearly to both specialist and broader audiences.
Focus Areas
Biomedical engineering, communication technologies, complex systems and information processing, micro/nano materials and devices, power, energy and control, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, advanced engineering research, electrical and electronic systems
Learning Outcomes
Graduates develop advanced research skills and learn how to investigate, analyse and solve complex engineering problems independently. They also strengthen their critical thinking, research design, data analysis, project management and technical communication skills while contributing new knowledge to their chosen field.
Professional Alignment (Accreditation)
This research master's degree is primarily focused on advanced research and does not list a separate professional engineering accreditation on the official program page. The research experience gained can support careers in research and development, government, industry and non-government organisations, as well as further study at PhD level.
