The Master of Engineering (Professional), specialising in Renewable Energy at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) is designed for engineering graduates who want to develop advanced skills in renewable energy, electrical power systems, smart grids and energy storage. Year 1

The first year builds a strong foundation in electrical and renewable energy engineering. Students study subjects such as Power Electronics and System Analysis, Electrical Power Distribution Engineering, Principles of Renewable Energy Sources, Advanced Digital and Embedded Systems and Advanced Control Systems Engineering, developing skills in power systems, renewable technologies, electronics and control.

Year 2

The second year focuses on applying this knowledge to modern and sustainable energy systems. Students study Advanced Digital Communications, Micro-grid and Energy Storage Systems and Electrical Demand Forecasting and Management, along with Engineering Project Management Principles and Advanced Engineering Project 1 and 2, giving them the opportunity to work on complex renewable energy challenges.

The course also develops project management, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, communication and research skills, while students complete at least 60 days of suitable engineering work experience.

The program has received provisional accreditation from Engineers Australia at the Professional Engineer level under the Washington Accord and is progressing towards full accreditation following the graduation of its first cohort.
