2 Years On Campus Masters Program
The Master of Renewable and Future Energy at The University of Western Australia is a postgraduate program designed for engineering graduates who want to build specialised skills for the growing renewable energy industry. Students explore renewable energy generation, energy storage, smart grids, microgrids and clean energy technologies while developing practical knowledge that can be applied to real-world energy challenges.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
The first year develops the technical foundation needed to understand modern renewable energy systems. Depending on their previous studies, students may take subjects such as Power and Machines, Engineering Electrical Fundamentals, Fluid Mechanics or Engineering Thermodynamics before moving into specialist subjects such as Chemical and Thermal Renewable Energies, Photovoltaics and its Application to Power Systems, and Grid Integration of Renewable Energy.
Year 2
Students following the longer pathway build more advanced knowledge through subjects such as Design and Analysis of Smart Grids and Microgrids, Energy Storage Systems and Renewable Energy Case Studies. They can also choose subjects such as Renewable Energy Research Project, Modern Control Systems, Power Electronics or Project Management and Engineering Practice, allowing them to focus their studies on research, technical expertise or industry applications.
Focus Areas
Renewable energy generation, photovoltaics, energy storage, smart grids, microgrids, renewable energy integration, chemical and thermal renewable energy, renewable ocean energy, power systems, energy transition, power electronics, renewable energy research, sustainable energy technologies
Learning Outcomes
Graduates develop a strong understanding of renewable energy generation, energy storage, transmission and distribution, smart grids and microgrids. They learn to assess renewable energy resources, evaluate emerging technologies, design renewable energy and storage systems, understand energy markets and contribute effectively to multidisciplinary engineering projects.
