Established in 1911, the University of Western Australia (UWA) a public research university with its main campus in Perth and a secondary campus in Albany. UWA is classed as one of the "sandstone universities", an informal designation is given to the oldest university in each state. The university also belongs to several more formal groupings, including the Group of Eight and the Matariki Network of Universities
The university comprises of various schools and colleges: College of Arts; College of Business: College of Law and Education; College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences; College of Science, Health and Medical Science and Graduate Research School.
The students can choose from one of five broad bachelor degrees and then select the focused area of study from almost 70 diverse majors.
The University of Western Australia has a total student population of more than 25,000 students of which over 19,800 are enrolled in the undergraduate programs. The student to faculty ratio at the university is 18:1.
The University of Western Australia has partnered with Study Group to provide Foundation Program, Diploma of Commerce, Diploma of Science and Academic English Preparation courses. The Foundation Programs provides an academic preparation for students seeking entry to first-year undergraduate study or its equivalent. The program prepares the student with a comprehensive skill set to ensure that the student achieves the strong academic foundation needed to progress towards the University of Western Australia (UWA). The Diploma of Commerce and Diploma of Science provides extra support during the first year of study and can be followed by direct entry to undergraduate year two of a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science respectively at the university.
