Master of Engineering (Extension)

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Technology Sydney

Program Overview

The Master of Engineering (Extension) is designed for professional engineers who want to build on their existing technical knowledge while gaining broader skills in areas such as engineering management, policy and multidisciplinary practice. Students combine an engineering major with a sub-major in another field, along with professional engineering subjects, electives and an independent engineering project.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students strengthen their engineering knowledge through advanced subjects related to their chosen major while beginning study in their selected sub-major. They also develop broader professional skills through engineering subjects, lectures, seminars and project-based learning that connect technical knowledge with practical challenges.

Year 2: Students continue with advanced study in their major and sub-major while completing an Independent Engineering Project that allows them to investigate and address a substantial engineering challenge. Elective subjects provide additional flexibility to explore specialist topics and develop knowledge across different areas of engineering.

Focus Areas

Advanced engineering, environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and mechatronic engineering, engineering management, policy, multidisciplinary engineering, research methods and independent project work.

Learning Outcomes

Students develop advanced technical expertise in their chosen engineering discipline while strengthening their research, problem-solving, management and professional skills. They learn to apply engineering knowledge to complex real-world challenges, work across disciplines and complete independent engineering projects.
