The Master of Environment and Sustainability is designed for students who want to understand and address today's major environmental and sustainability challenges. The course brings together environmental, social and economic perspectives and allows students to specialise in areas such as Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Management, Environment and Governance, Environmental Security, International Development and Environment, or Leadership for Sustainable Development.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
Students begin by developing a strong foundation through subjects such as Global Challenges and Sustainability and Perspectives on Sustainability. These subjects help students understand the connections between the environment, society and the economy while exploring the challenges involved in creating a more sustainable future.
Students then progress into their chosen specialisation, where they build knowledge and skills related to their area of interest. This allows them to explore sustainability from professional perspectives such as environmental management, governance, security, international development and sustainable leadership.
Year 2
Students deepen their knowledge through advanced study in their chosen specialisation and develop the ability to apply sustainability concepts to real-world situations. They can undertake options such as the Sustainability Consultancy Project, Environment and Sustainability Project or Sustainability Internship, providing valuable practical experience.
Students interested in research can choose Research Thesis in Environment and Sustainability A and B. This pathway allows them to conduct independent research into an environmental or sustainability issue and develop skills that can support future research careers.

The Master of Environment and Sustainability is held on campus at Monash University’s Clayton campus, Melbourne, Australia.
The program is offered as one Master of Environment and Sustainability (S6002) with five specialisations
Entry Level 1: 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time, requiring an Australian bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least a 60% (Credit) average.
Entry Level 2: 1.5 years full-time or 3 years part-time, requiring a bachelor’s degree in a cognate discipline such as business, environmental science, humanities, science or social sciences, with at least a 60% (Credit) average; an equivalent graduate certificate/diploma in a cognate discipline may also be accepted.
Entry Level 3: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time, requiring an Australian bachelor honours degree or equivalent in a cognate discipline, with at least a 60% (Credit) average.
English Language Requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each band) or TOEFL iBT 79 overall (minimum Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, Writing 21) / 4 overall on the 1–6 scale (minimum Reading 3.5, Listening 3, Speaking 3.5, Writing 4.5). India: A recognised bachelor’s degree equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree, with at least a 60% equivalent overall average for Entry Level 1.
